Backups and moving

Versions and the trash help against a wrong click. Against a broken disk, only a backup helps. nexbrand makes them itself, every night out of the box.

Where you find them

Under Settings, Server, Backups. Only the operator sees this.

SettingMeans
Automaticallyoff, every night or every week; every night by default, between 3 and 6 in the morning
Keephow many automatic backups stay, 1 to 365; seven by default
Back up nowmakes a backup by hand straight away
Upload a backupputs a downloaded backup back into the list, on a new server for instance

Only automatic backups are cleared away. What you backed up by hand or uploaded stays until you delete it.

What is inside

A backup is a ZIP with the database, every file, that is logos, fonts and examples, a manifest with checksums and the key secret.key. nexbrand copies the database while it is running, in a way that keeps it consistent. The list shows for each backup how it came about (by hand, scheduled or before a change), how many clients and files it holds, its size and the nexbrand version.

Pavo saysA backup is not encrypted and holds every client, file and account. Keep it as carefully as the server itself.

Checking, downloading, restoring

  • Check tells you whether the backup is complete and what a restore would add and remove, or that it is damaged.
  • Download fetches the ZIP to your computer. Put it somewhere that outlives the server.
  • Restore first backs up the present state, then restarts nexbrand and swaps the data on the way. The page reloads afterwards, and everybody signs in again.

Download, Upload, Restore and Delete ask for your password once more.

Moving to a new server

  1. Back up on the old server

Back up now, then Download the backup.

  2. Set up nexbrand on the new server

As in the chapter Setting up, with an operator account.

  3. Upload

There, under Settings, Server, Backups, with Upload a backup. It then stands in the list as “uploaded”.

  4. Check and restore

First Check, then Restore. After the restart the new server has the old accounts, clients, versions and files; you sign in with your old account.

Afterwards, if the address has changed, enter the new public address under Settings, Server, Sign-in.
