The CI · Chapter 9
Logos
A logo belongs on a certain ground, needs space around it and must not get arbitrarily small. nexbrand keeps that with the logo, not in a PDF beside it.
The Logos tab
Each logo stands on its ground; when the ground is transparent, a chequerboard lies beneath. The tick box Show the clear space draws in the free space. Below stand a line such as “Ground #FFFFFF · Minimum width 120 px · Clear space 24 px” and the files to download, one per file type.
Uploading a logo
In the editor, tab Logos, Upload a logo takes SVG, PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, AVIF, BMP and HEIC, several files at once too. A HEIC from a phone becomes an upright WebP. More formats (EPS, PDF …) attaches files to a logo that are there only to download, such as the print version. A version holds at most 24 logos.
| Field | Means |
|---|---|
| Name | such as “Logo positive” or “Symbol” |
| Ground | a colour of the palette, own value or any (transparent) |
| Minimum width | it is not shrunk below this; as text, such as “120 px” or “25 mm” |
| Clear space | the space that stays free, as text too |
nexbrand checks every file on upload. An SVG with a script, event attributes, embedded HTML or a DOCTYPE is refused, and nexbrand shows SVG logos only as pictures, never as pages. Photos lose location and device unless the operator switches that off.
Word marks as stand-ins
Often the logo is not drawn yet when developers want to start building. Word marks as stand-ins creates three word marks from name, heading font and main colour: positive, negative and a monogram. They carry the badge Word mark. Their fields are Word mark text, Word mark font, the colours Lettering and Mark, and the switch Monogram. Logos are drawn in Figma or Illustrator; once there is one, you upload it and remove the stand-ins.
What is checked
For drawn word marks, nexbrand measures lettering and mark against the ground and shows contrast fine or below 3:1; graphic parts need 3:1 (WCAG 1.4.11). With rules you set which grounds a logo may stand on.
Pavo saysAn uploaded logo carries its colours inside the file. nexbrand computes the 3:1 contrast only for word marks it draws itself; with a file, you look for yourself.
