First steps · Chapter 3
A new client with the wizard
For a client without a CI, the wizard is the workbench: you design, nexbrand checks while you build, and at the end there is a draft or straight away a review with the client. You open it with New client or Alt N.
Who may create clients
The operator always. Members as long as the operator leaves the switch Members create clients on; it is on out of the box. Whoever creates a client manages it.
Six steps
- Client
Name, Sector and First project (may stay empty). Below, you describe in a few words how the client should come across: trade, mood, audience. The name is checked at once, since no two clients share a name.
- Start
Four ways to a first palette, see below.
- Colours
Name, role and value of each colour. Every change runs the checks on the right again.
- Fonts
Six pairs that work together, such as Fraunces with Inter or Lora with DM Sans, each with a sentence on its mood. Or you pick headings and body text freely from the nine fonts that ship with nexbrand. Fonts of your own come after creating.
- Sizes and logo
A base size (17 px by default) and a ratio (1.25 by default). Upload a logo (SVG, PNG) adds a logo; without one, word marks made from the name stand in.
- Finish
Create as a draft only or Create and send to the client for review.
To the right of the steps, a sample page in the CI taking shape and the checks run along. The switch Every pair shows the contrast table. Next waits when something is missing and says what: “Type a name first.” or “Add a colour first.”
Four ways to start
| Way | What happens |
|---|---|
| From the description | Suggest three directions turns your key words into three directions: A close to the description, B with a counterpoint, C reserved. Each with a sample page; Go on with this takes one. |
| From a picture | A mood picture, a photo of the shop. nexbrand shrinks it in the browser, counts the colours and suggests roles. The picture never leaves your browser. |
| From one colour | A colour the client brings. It stays as you enter it; if it is not enough for text, nexbrand names the nearest colour of the same hue that is, with Use it. |
| Empty, record a CI | For a client that has a CI already, see Recording an existing CI. |
For the directions, nexbrand darkens the main colour until a button with white text and a link on a light ground reach 4.5:1. With your own AI service set up, the button reads Propose with AI: the AI proposes hue, font pair and reason, and nexbrand works out the colours itself.
What you end up with
The client gets the draft 1.0, and if you named a first project, that project as well. With Create and send to the client for review, the worked-out version goes to review, together with directions sent along unchanged for comparison if you like. The link is then valid for 30 days.
Pavo saysHints from the checks do not hold you up: creating works anyway, and the client does not see them. It is better to fix them first, though.
